French writer and aviator · 1900 – 1944

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry flew mail routes over the Sahara and the Andes in the 1920s and 30s, crashed in the Libyan desert and nearly died of thirst, and wrote about flight as a way of seeing people rather than scenery. The Little Prince, written in exile in New York, is among the most translated books in the world. He returned to fly reconnaissance for the Free French and disappeared over the Mediterranean in 1944.
