Pablo Neruda published his Twenty Love Poems at nineteen and spent the rest of his life alternating between love poetry, Chilean diplomacy and communist politics. He served as consul in Spain during the civil war, went into hiding and then exile when communism was banned at home, and won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1971.
