Thich Nhat Hanh was a Vietnamese Zen monk who campaigned for peace during the war, was exiled for nearly forty years as a result, and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Martin Luther King Jr. He founded a monastic community in France and taught mindfulness in terms plain enough to travel: washing dishes, walking, breathing. He is one of the main reasons the word mindfulness is in ordinary English use.
